Constructed 2006, the Clouds Hill Recordings studio is located in the Rothenburgsort
district of Hamburg, on two floors of a restored Hamburg warehouse overlooking
the Elbe River.
The studio section of Clouds Hill Recordings occupies a total
area of 350 square meters and offers unique, carefully selected equipment that
will satisfy the highest technical demands for all phases of analogous and digital
music production and post-production. It is the only recordingstudio in Germany
that is equipped with a vintage Neve 8068 console, the audio mixer that
Sir George Martin
commissioned
Rupert Neve to manufacture in 1978. Besides George Martin,
musicians like John Lennon ("Double Fantasy") and later Daniel Lanois
in the New York "Hit Factory" have worked with this presumably most
renowned mixing console in music history. The concept behind the Clouds Hill Recordings
studio-providing musicians from around the world with the highest quality technical
equipment in an inspiring setting and creative working atmosphere-is complemented
by the second element of the Clouds Hill complex: 500 m2 of carefully designed
and furnished accommodations with unique views of the Elbe River landscape.
Technical equipment
Besides analog equipment (Neve 8068, Studer A820, Pultec EQs,
RCA Limiter. to mention just a few...), CHR offers the complete spectrum of components
needed for digital music production, including Pro Tools HD3, Logic, Native Instruments,
Waves Diamond, and a large selection of vintage and new microphones and amplifiers (see
equipment list).
The CHR studio rooms guarantee superb acoustic
quality, thanks to painstaking design based on a professional acoustic expertise
specially prepared by the
Taubert and Ruhe company: these reputable Hamburg acoustic
engineers were recently commissioned as consultants for the city's projected philharmonic
hall, the "Elbphilharmonie".
